Hartland Forest Golf Club is in a lovely unspoilt setting with 114 acres of ponds, woodland and a river valley, it offers a 9 hole golf course. There is a well stocked fishing lake at Hartland Forest, two all weather tennis courts, walking trails and abundant opportunities for spotting birds, wildlife and rare plants. The nearby Hartland Forest itself covers 1000 acres and is home to herds of wild deer, yet is just 8 miles away from North Devon’s beautiful Heritage coastline and many sandy beaches. It really is a great location for a holiday in North Devon, visitors include:
- young families who enjoy the beaches and other attractions;
- small groups who simply want to get away and yet still have access to some excellent restaurants;
- walkers and bird watchers of all ages.
Hartland Forest Golf Club is about five minutes off the A39 and covenient for all the attractions of North Devon as well as Bude, Bideford and Barnstaple. It is close to the Atlantic coast of North Devon which is steeped in a tradition of smuggling and famous for timeless fishing villages including Clovelly, just 5 miles away, renowned the world over for its flower strewn cottages and steep cobbled footpath falling to the 14th century harbour. Lundy Island may be visited by boat from Clovelly or Bideford quay, it is sparsely populated but has many seals and rare puffins.
Hartland Quay is at the foot of very steep cliffs. There is a small shipwreck museum, a pub and small shop with delicious ice creams.
There are plenty of options around North Devon for garden and historic house enthusiasts. You can visit Hartland Abbey; Tapeley House and Gardens; National Trust Arlington Court; RHS Rosemoor Gardens; Marwood Gardens to name a few. The Eden Project which is just over an hours drive.
Just a short drive along the Cornish coast is Tintagel of Arthurian legend and Padstow, a lovely harbour well acquainted with Rick Stein famous eateries and formerly inhabited by Sir Walter Raleigh.
The Atlantic (Factory Shopping) Village on the outskirts of Bideford offers retail therapy and Dartington Crystal at Torrington is well worth popping in to.
